Self-confidence key for Shuvo’s success

Sports Reporter

All-rounder Suhrawardi Shuvo drew the attention of the selectors by his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) performance though he didn’t showcase any extraordinary performance.
Shuvo led Victoria Sporting Club to win against Prime Bank single-handedly by striking an unbeaten 105 that was the lone mark of his batting prowess. He also fired his scintillation with cherry as he placed 19th with 17 scalps off 14 matches, having the best figures of 4-29.
Rangpur-born lad, who broke into the national fold through a process of age-level cricket, played in U-19, A-team and then the national team. He played in three formats of games for Bangladesh.
The 27-year-old made his one day debut against England at home in 2010. He last played for the national team in 2011 against West Indies. During that period he played 17 one day internationals for Bangladesh.
Though he is basically a spinner Shuvo also bats well. Team management is considering him as the substitute of spinner Arafat Sunny, who is now suspended for his illegal bowling action. So, they called him for the 30-member Bangladesh preliminary squad ahead of the bilateral series against England.
“I had self-confidence if I could fare well in Premier League I’ll then get call from the national team. I played well and so selectors call me. I will try my best so that I could justify their selection by doing well,” said Suhrawardi Shuvo.  He gets call from the preliminary squad after a long lull and wants to utilise his experience of playing big tournaments in the past.
“I played so many big tournaments in my career. I know how to handle the pressure situation. It will be easier for me to play for the national team having experienced. I will try to capitalize if I get chance to play,” Shuvo told The Independent.
