BCL starts from Aug 20

The new season’s window of the Bangladesh domestic cricket will be opened with the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) – the first class cricket tournament, which is likely to get underway on August 20.
The fourth edition of the BCL ended in March this year. The board decided to organise the fifth edition of the league in the gap of six months as the local players will go to play longer version cricket against England at home turf ahead.
Bangladesh last played Test cricket 15 months ago, this long gap which is predicted to make an adverse impact on the players. Keeping that fact in the mind, the team management wants the players to play at least some matches of the longer version cricket prior to the upcoming home series against England.
In this regard, BCB director and its Cricket Operation Chairman Akram Khan said that they have planned to organise the BCL to give the chance to play some matches of the longer version cricket before the England series.
“We have decided to arrange some matches of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) ahead of the home series against England. It is likely to get underway on August 20,” said Akram Khan.
“We think if our players could play some matches before the outset of the series against England, the confidence level of the boys will then be high,” Khan told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
About the national team’s bowling coach, the post which remained vacant after Zimbabwe-born fast bowler Heath Steak was reluctant to continue his job in Bangladesh, Akram Khan said that they will finalise the deal within the next two or three days.
“The talks are still going on regarding bowling coach. Everything has been almost done. Who is the bowling coach will soon be known. Actually our board president himself looks after the matter. Hopefully it could be known within the next two or three days,” Akram revealed.
When asked about the delay of the foreign coaching staffs, the former national skipper said that they couldn’t make the delay due to the security grounds.
“The conditioning camp of the Bangladesh team is scheduled to start on July 20. The first 7-10 days will be run by the trainer. The actual practice of bowling-batting and fielding will be held just after the conditioning camp. Therefore, the coaches are slated to come here. Actually the planning of the camp has been made in such way,” Akram explained.
“I am not fully ensured the matter. I think it would be better to discuss with CEO in this regard,” the former captain told about the appointment of gunman for foreign coaches’ security.
The board stepped up the security in and around the Home of Cricket in the aftermath of the recent terror attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery and O’Kitchen Restaurant in Gulshan that killed 22 persons including foreigners and locals.
