Anti-terrorism body formed
Local unit of 14-party alliance formed an anti-militancy committee consisting 80 organisations to fight against all sorts of militancy and terrorism in Rajshahi on Friday.
The committee titled “Militancy and Terrorism Elimination” was formed in a meeting held at Rajshahi College auditorium with local unit convener and former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair. City Awami League President Khairuzzaman Liton was made convener while General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, as adviser of the committee formed with the ‘Resist Militancy and Save Bangladesh’ slogan.

Man found dead in Sylhet
Police recovered the body of an unidentified man, aged about 45, from the Surma River in Kanaighat upazila on Friday.
Police said locals spotted the body floating in the river beside Darul Ulum Madrasah in the area at about 11:3-am and informed police. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A case was filed in this connection.

Two held with phensidyl
Police arrested two people along with 500 bottles of the Indian Phensidyl syrup from Kakanhat Bazar in Godagari upazila early Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as Manirul Islam, son of late Taisur Rahman of Nabinagar Barohati village of Godagari upazila, and Anisur Rahman, son of Manjur Rahman of Barorasia village in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station SM Abu Farhad said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a Rajshahi-bound lorry from Chapainawabganj at about 5:30am.
The law enforcers recovered 500 bottles of the Indian Phensidyl syrup after searching the vehicle and arrested the duo.
A case was filed in this connection.

One held in sabotage case
Police arrested a union parishad member from Pathalia in Savar upazila early Saturday in a case filed for sabotage.
The arrestee was identified as Lehaj Uddin, member of ward no 5 of Pathalia union under Ashulia thana.
Assistant Sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station Masud Rana said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Lehaj in the dead of night.
Police arrested Lehaj in a case for carrying out sabotage during the BNP endorsed hartal and blockade after January 5 general election, the ASI added.
