Khutba against terrorism

People of Bangladesh are in general religiously tolerant people, but if the recent waves of terrorism cannot be stopped right now, organised militancy can turn into an even bigger problem

It is a laudable initiative that the Islamic Foundation has prepared a special sermon meant for delivery at all mosques of the country denouncing terrorism. In fact, in the last Jum’a (Friday) prayers, this sermon written with the help of Islamic scholars was delivered urging parents and guardians to keep a watchful eye on their children’s movements. Islam as a humanistic religion in no way urges a believer to kill an innocent human being whatever may be the circumstances.
There are a lot of verses that prohibit the brutality of one human being over the other. Here one such verse, from Surah Al Maidah (Verse-32), can be cited: “He who killed any person, unless it be a person guilty of manslaughter, or of spreading chaos in the land, should be looked upon as though he had slain all mankind, and he who saved one life should be regarded as though he had saved the lives of all mankind.”
Therefore, militants killing innocent people in the name of Islam are doing an un-Islamic thing and should be strongly repudiated. But sadly, the militant ideologies that are coming to our land from the foreign shores in these days of high-tech social media are attracting the young and uninformed people. The whole nation was surprised to see that the Gulshan attackers were all young people who were attending or attended the capital’s posh educational institutions.
The fact is militant leaders are targeting these young minds for materialising their ideals. Against this backdrop, it is very important to spread the real message of Islam particularly the instruction on Jihad which never ever urges to kill innocent human beings whatever might be their religious or national identities.
We sincerely hope that delivering identical sermon against terrorism during the Friday prayers in all mosques of the country would bear fruit. But since college and university students are targeted for militancy, scope for reaching the real message of Islam have to be widened. People of Bangladesh are in general religiously tolerant people, but if the recent waves of terrorism cannot be stopped right now, organised militancy can turn into an even bigger problem.
The country, therefore, must build up adequate resistance against the threats of terrorist forces. Besides cautioning guardians and students, it is also very crucial to increase the efficiency of our law enforcers.
