A thirteen day solo art exhibition of a young talented artist Sayed Fida Hossain titled ‘Enigma’ will begin today at the Dhanmondi’s EMK Center. Jointly organized by EMK Center and ARTcon, Elizabeth Thornhill, Cultural Affairs Officer of US Embassy, Dhaka and renowned artist Jamal Ahmed will be present as special guests and jointly inaugurate the exhibition today at 5:30pm.
Born in 1989, Dinajpur, Bangladesh, Sayed Fida Hossain received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011 and Masters in 2015 from the Department of Drawing & Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Presently Sayed Fida Hossain is working as Cartoonist at Daily Banik Barta.
Fida sees human existence in terms of a triangulation of mind, body, and spirit; collectively he sees this as the soul of a being. This existence consists of a constant fight between the dualities of good and evil, ultimately leading to death. He finds beauty in this struggle, which also generates a lot of stories. His paintings embody this struggle, a silent self-exploration, one might say. This struggle is also embodied in a mechanical process that takes over one’s life, and the inner existence, i.e. the soul is rediscovered through the process of intellectual exercise and the being aware of one’s consciousness. Fida calls this process ‘Humanity’, an amalgamation of these feelings, which he terms as synthetic. His bold canvasses are an extension of that process, which are almost self-analytical.
This is his 1st solo art exhibition, where fourteen artworks to be displayed in the exhibition. Earlier he participated in many group art exhibitions since student life.
Fida received ‘Dipa Hoq Award’ in 18th National Art Exhibition in 2009 and ‘Honorable Mention Award’ at the 19th Young Artist Art Exhibition in 2014, organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; Honorable Mention Award in Bangabandhu Art Exhibition and Competition in 2008 & 2009; Media Best Award (Pen & Ink) in Annual Art Exhibition in 2010; Artist Delwar Hossain Memorial Award in Annual Exhibition of the Dept. of Drawing & Painting in 2014 and many more.
