KU classes resume tomorrow
KHULNA: Classes of Khulna University (KU) will resume on July 17 after Eid-ul-Fitr vacation. Academic and administrative activities of the University will begin as usual from 9am and continue till 5pm.
A press release issued by the Public Relation Department of KU says, all dormitories of the university would be opened on July 10.
ADB official meets DU VC
Principal Social Development Specialist of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Sunhwa Lee called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Wednesday at the latter's office of the university.
Additional Finance Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder, former Secretary and Chairman of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited Arastoo Khan, Deputy Finance Secretary Mohammed Walid Hossain, Professor of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of DU Dr Jawad R Zahid and Assistant Professor Md. Rezaul Kabir were present on the occasion, said a release.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues including socio-economic development in Bangladesh. They also discussed the possibilities of introducing training program for DU faculties and mid-level and higher-level officials to enhance their professional skills. The ADB delegate expressed her willingness to provide financial support to DU for development of its infrastructure facilities.
Rangpur Medical College gets new principal
Renowned surgeon and Head of the Department of Surgery of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RpMCH) Professor Dr Syed Md Abu Taleb joined as the new Principal of Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) on Wednesday.
Professor Taleb took over charges of his new office at a ceremony from outgoing Principal renowned medicine specialist and Head of the Department of Medicine of RpMCH Professor Dr Zakir Hossain.
Before taking charges of the new office, Professor Taleb conducted his responsibilities as the Vice-principal of the same college. Professor Taleb, also a Fellow of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS), has a long career of professional physician as a renowned surgeon with huge reputation.
After completing his MBBS course in 1982 and subsequent in-service training, Professor Taleb joined at the Department of Surgery in RpMCH in 1984 and worked there as Assistant Surgeon till 1987. During his long career, he joined as the Assistant Registrar (Surgery) at RpMCH in 1992, as Registrar (Casualty) in Dhaka Mitford Sir Salimullah Medical College and as Assistant Professor (Surgery) at RpMCH in 1999. Later, he joined as Associate Professor (Surgery) of the Department of Surgery at RpMCH in 2011 and was promoted to the post of Professor Surgery) in 2013.
Research based seminar held at IUB
A research based seminar on ‘Why a village in Jessore reveals so much about our world over the last 25 years and the next 25 years’ held on the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Wednesday, says a press release.
The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) jointly organised the programme. Dr. Michael Bowler, AIBS Senior Research Fellow and Associate Professor at the department of Global Studies and World Languages at Winona State University, Minnesota, USA, was the key speaker of the seminar.
Through the presentation, Dr Bowler shared his research findings and relationship with a village in Manirampur Upazila in Jessore district of Bangladesh. He also revealed in-depth outcomes of the research of last 25 years. Dr. Bowler mentioned about the improvement of income and living standard of the village accomplished over the period of time. He also pointed out the serious health care challenges and environmental degradation of the village that took place during this time.
M Omar Rahman, vice-chancellor, IUB, delivered the welcome speech in the seminar while Talim Hossain, head, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, gave the vote of thanks. There was a lively question-answer session that engaged the members of the faculty and IUB students of different disciplines.
