RANGPUR: Mayor (State Minister) of Rangpur City Corporation Sarfuddin Ahmmed Jhantu has said there is no place for fundamentalism, fanaticism, terrorism and militancy in Bangladesh, reports BSS. "Those, who have been conducting terrorist activities, militancy, anarchy and secret killings, are enemies of the country," he said at a discussion arranged on Dharmosava Mandir premises in the city on Thursday afternoon as chief guest. International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Bangladesh organised the discussion on the occasion of pulling rope of the Ulto Rath to conclude nine-day (from July 6 to 14) celebrations of the Shree Shree Jagannathdeb's Ratha Yatra.
The City Mayor said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony for time immemorial and no communal force could destroy the non-communal tradition through conducting terrorist and militant activities on this soil. "Every religion speaks about peace. Bangladesh belongs to the Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and people of other faiths and everyone should stand firmly like that in 1971 to resist terrorism, fundamentalist extremism and militancy," he said.
Earlier, thousands of the Hindu devotees participated in the Ulto Rath Yatra from Dharmoshava Mandir to Paul Para Madam Mohan Mandir in the city to end the nine-day celebrations amid huge festivities, religious fervour, solemnity and gaiety.
Judge of the Special Judge Court of Rangpur Shree Naresh Chandra Sarker, Trusty of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick, General Secretary of city Awami League Tushar Kanti Mandal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Priyosindhu Talukder addressed, among others. The speakers said Bangladesh has set up a glaring example of peace and communal harmony, people of all faiths have been living friendly on this soil and working unitedly for advancing the nation towards peace, prosperity and progress.
They called upon the common people irrespective of caste, creed and religion to become united in foiling conspiracies being hatched by vested quarters to destabilise the country through terrorist activities, militancy and secret killings.
