Raisul Islam Asad turns 64 today

Six-times National Film Award winning seasoned actor Raisul Islam Asad turns 64 today. Interestingly, just after one day of his birthday, one of his notable films ‘Ghuddi’ will be screened at a festival titled ‘Asian Cinema Retrospective 2016’  tomorrow in the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area. In reply to a question that how he will celebrate his birthday, Asad said, “I never do anything on my birthday. Usually, I try to spend the day in a silent manner in my own style. I would like to seek prayers from everyone, so that I can stay happy and healthy. I convey my well-wishes to my fans.”  Raisul Islam Asad started his journey in the fields of theatre and television in 1972 just after the Liberation War of Bangladesh. On the other hand, he  involved himself in film through ‘Abar Tora Manush Ha’ under the direction of Khan Ataur Rahman in 1973. Then, he fascinated the audience with his outstanding acting in more than 50 films like ‘Ghuddi’ (1980) directed by Salahuddin Jaki, ‘Lal Sabujer Pala’ (1981) directed by Syed Hasan Imam, ‘Suruj Miah’ (1984) directed by Kajal Arefin, ‘Nadir Naam Modhumati’ (1994), ‘Lal Darja’ (1997), ‘Kittonkhola’ (2000), ‘Lalsalu’ (2001), ‘Lalon’ (2004), ‘Duratta’ (2006), ‘Moner Manush’ (2010), ‘Amar Bondhu Rashed’ (2011) and others. Meanwhile, he won the National Film Award six times. The prestigious awards came for his films ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’, ‘Lalsalu’, ‘Dukhai’, ‘Ghani’ and ‘Mrittika Maya’. Raisul Islam Asad got married to Tahira Dil Afroz in 1979 and his only daughter’s name is Rubaina Jaman.
