Rajshahi villagers become united to maintain peace, social harmony

RAJSHAHI: More than 1,500 villagers both male and female in three unions under Mohanpur Upazila of the district have become united to maintain social harmony and responsive citizenship everywhere in their respective communities, reports BSS.
Now, the villagers including ethnic and labor-class are also pledged bound for making their localities free from any sorts of terrorism, militancy, conflicts and violence. They forged social resistance to fight against terror attacks and militancy as a whole.
They organized four workshops and different types of folk songs and distributed posters and flipcharts among the co-villagers focusing importance of maintaining peace and social harmony during the last over six months.
The youths both boys and girls were imparted training on transparency, accountability and citizenship relating to the activities of the local life related issues for grooming up their latent knowledge on the issues.
Besides, the youths have come forward towards ensuring the optimization of the system of local government with people participation.
Various issues like communal harmony, right to information for creating awareness, prevention of violence against women and quality improvement in primary education were discussed elaborately in the campaign.
The Hunger Project Bangladesh supported the activities in association with its project styled “Promoting Democratic Inclusion and Governance through Youth (PRODIGY)” with financial support of British Council.
With intervention of the project, the life-skill development and capacity building activities were implemented in Bakshimoil, Jahanabad and Mougachhi Unions.
Upazila Chairman Abdus Salam told BSS that responsive and positive role by all quarters is very important for maintaining peace and social harmony everywhere in the society towards taking forward the country collectively.  For the sake of building the nation as peaceful motherland, all of us should work together, he pointed out.
He said the above mentioned villagers have come together towards enhancing their level of confidence for ensuring equitable, inclusive and sustainable development in an effort to playing effective role as social watchdog.
The organized people have acquired knowledge on how to avert and mitigate the social conflicts and violence coupled with finding out their community level existing problems and way out of those collectively.
Abdus Samad mentioned that enriching leadership among youths including the students along with their capacity building is the precondition to make them worthy citizens.
Project Field Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul says the scheme puts more importance on financial management, citizenship, governance and local governance and good governance sector.
Sharing his working experience on the issue, Islam Ali Sarder, Chairman of Jahanabad Union Parishad, said the nation would get rid of terror attacks, conflicts and confusion if the people of the society as well as the state machineries took a positive approach to establish peace and amity from their own position.
They took steps to build a local unity to free the area from the clutches of terrorism, conflicts, feud and violence.
UP chairman Islam Ali Sarder said all sorts of militancy, terror-attacks, violence, crimes and other anomalies in the society could be reduced to a greater extent through only maintaining social and communal harmony everywhere.
To this end, political parties, professional leaders, development workers, influential persons and people in general should work together, he added.
