The Supreme Court (SC) has sought the government's help in providing tight security in and around court premises and judges' residences in the wake of the recent militant attack in the capital that claimed the lives of 29 people, including foreigners and police officers. The apex court authority yesterday sent a letter to law and home ministers, as well as to senior government officials, including the inspector general of police and director general of RAB, asking them to provide stringent security in and around all court premises and judges’ residences across the country with immediate effect.
According to the letter, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha was deeply worried about the security of lower court judges, workers and other officials following the recent terrorist attack in the country. It also said that the Chief Justice has already notified the top level of the government about his concern over the lax security at courts.
Government high-ups have assured the Chief Justice of taking necessary steps to ensure foolproof security for the officials concerned, the letter added. Although it might take some time for the government to take necessary measures, security should be tightened on an emergency basis in and around courts, along with residences of judges and court officials, across the country, the letter noted. Talking to The Independent, additional registrar of the SC, Sabbir Foyez, said the letter has been forwarded to the officials concerned as a pre-cautionary measure following the recent militant attack.
