With pulling of rope of Ulto Rath, the Rath Jatra festival ended

With the pulling of the rope of Ulto Rath, the Rath Jatra, one of the festivals of the Hindu community, ended yesterday. The festival regarded as the car festival of Lord Sri Jagannath (Krishna) started on July 6, reports BSS. Different religious bodies and temple committees organised various programmes marking the Ulto Rath, the return journey of Lord Sri Jagannath. The programmes started in the morning included Harinam Sangkirtan, Agnihotra Jagna seeking world peace, discussion, rendering of Padabali Kirtan, cultural show, recitation of verses from the Holy Geeta and distribution of Mohaprosad. The programmes were organised at the ISKON temple, Ram-Sita Mandir and Jagannath Temple at Shankhari Bazar and other places in the capital.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) brought out a big colourful procession with the car (Rath) of Lord Sri Jagannath from its Swamibag Temple in the city in the afternoon. At the outset of the march, Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam attended as the chief guest a discussion on the temple premises. Sripadh Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari chaired the function, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka South City Awami League general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, former president of ISKON,
Bangladesh Krishna Kirtan Das Brahmachari, the custodian of Dhakeshwari National Temple Pradeep Bhattacharjee and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana. Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the real symbol of secular politics, Quamrul Islam said, “The government under the farsighted and capable leadership of the Prime Minister would uproot militancy and communalism from the sacred soil of Bangladesh forever.”
After the Ulto Ratha
Jatra, Moha Prosad was distributed among the
devotees present and later in the evening, other
rituals of the festival were observed.
On this occasion, State Minister for Jute and Textile Mirza Azam attended as the chief guest a discussion at Jagannath Jeo Thakur Mandir in old Dhaka.
