Coming down hard on some top 14-party alliance and Awami League leaders for turning down Khaleda Zia's call for a national unity, 20-party alliance yesterday said they actually exposed their irresponsibility through the denial, reports UNB."Some top 14-party alliance and Awami League leaders have demonstrated their irresponsibility having failed to rise above the party interest," said BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Addressing a press briefing after a meeting of the 20-allince at the BNP chief's Gulshan office, Fakhrul said the ruling alliance leaders disregarded the nation's expectations through ignoring the BNP chairperson's call for a national unity.
He also alleged that they want to split the nation and push it into a deeper crisis when a national unity a must to overcome the crisis.
The BNP leader said the 20-alliance leaders at the meeting denounced their stance and urged them to accomplish their responsibility responding to Khaleda Zia's call.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia sat with the top leaders of the 20-party alliance Wednesday night to discuss the country's latest situation and work out its next course of action.
The meeting began around 8:30 pm at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office with Khaleda in the chair.
After the alliance meeting, Khaleda Zia sat with her party's standing committee members and vice-chairmen.
She will also sit in a meeting with intellectuals, journalists and eminent citizens on Thursday night at the same venue to take suggestions as to how the party should work for forging a national unity to face the growing extremism problem.
