On the occasion of the 18th founding anniversary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, a photo contest and exhibition has been arranged at Drik Gallery in the capital’s Dhanmondi area from tomorrow. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Chittagong Hill Tracts: People and Nature’. Both amateur and professional photographers from the hills and plains have been selected for showcasing their photographs in the exhibition that will continue till July 19.
The event has been organised by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs in partnership with Bangladesh Adventure Club.
The first three selected photographs will be awarded in the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition tomorrow at 4:30pm at Drik Gallery. The first winner will receive Tk 50000 and Certificate, while the second and third winner will receive Tk 35000 and Tk 25000 respectively alongside certificates.
Chittagong Hill Tracts are a region of green hills, blue sky and ethnic diversity located in the southeastern corner, covering an area of 13,295 km2, about 11% of the land area of Bangladesh, home to 11 different small ethnic communities Viz, Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Mru, Tongchongya, Bawm, Lushai, Khumi, Kheyang, Pankho, Chak and also Bengali speaking mainstream people, numbering nearly 1.6 million. One fourth of the region is Reserve Forest, about 322,331 hectares or 8,21,207 acres. South Asia’s largest man-made lake, Kaptai Lake, is located here. The main rivers are Karnaphuli, Chengi, Maini, Sangu, Kachalong, Matamuhuri and Feni.
The exhibition will remain open to all everyday from 3pm to 8pm, until July 19.
