The intensive training camp of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) High Performance (HP) for the 2016 season is scheduled to kickstart without the head coach Simon Helmot on July 17.
Australia-born Helmot is now busy in the ongoing Caribbean Cricket League (CPL) for the Trinbago Knight Riders. He will join with the team after the completion of his CPL stint in the first week of August.
Helmot’s compatriots Corey Bocking, who recently appointed for HP unit as trainer- now in Bangladesh and Brett Harrop, who has been working here since last few years as HP rehabilitation manager, will work with local coaches under the revived programme.
HP authority held a coordination meeting at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground yesterday, where BCB Game Development chairman Khaled Mahmud Sujon, HP trainer Corey Bocking, HP manager Nazmul Abedin Fahim, HP operation manager AEM Kawsar along with coaches Wahidul Gani, Mizanur Rahman Babul, Golam Murtoza, Sohel Islam attended the meeting.
“All we sat to discuss the procedures how we will start the second season of the HP programme and what will be our duty in HP,” said Fahim coming out from meeting.
“We will start the HP proceedings with 25 players, who have been selected by the selectors. It will continue till the middle of September just before the Eid-ul-Azha. We have games here. And so, we will not extend it since then,” Fahim told media.
“Our main goal is to develop the elite group. Hopefully we could be able to do that. It would be better if we could get some more times for the programme,” he added.
HP programme revived in 2015 after a long hiatus. But this time it came back with different moto.
“We will try to bring diversity in the training programme. If it is possible we will then bring them out of Dhaka so that we could make their habituation and adjustment with the different wickets and conditions,” HP manager said.
When asked about the head coach Simon Helmot, Nazmul Abedin said, “As so far I know the head coach is scheduled to join with the team in the first week of August. We ourselves will look after the team until his arrival in Dhaka. As we are involved in it since a long time we know how to work in such programme. It would be better if he would be here from the outset. But as he is not here we have to continue it in due times.”
There are six players including Mehedy Hasan Miraz, Nazmul Hasan Shanto, Saif Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehedi Hasan Rana and Zakir Hasan, who played ICC U-19 World Cup at home turf. Along with them Sadman Islam, Tasamul Haque, Al-Amin Junior, Abu Haider Rony, Ebadat Hossain will be in the exclusive training programme.
“We will try our best effort to bring the experts and consultants on short-term basis to make the programme effective. We will seek that players can uplift themselves from one level to another level and that’s our main target,” Fahim told.
“We will not get to see any local and foreign consultant or expert at the initial stage. But we’ll fetch them at the last quarter of the programme. We’ll also take the help of the local including former national players, who are involved in coaching at different level,” he signed off.
