Two hurt in ‘gunfight’

Two suspected arms traders sustained bullet injuries during a ‘gunfight’ with police at Jalalabad in Kalaroa upazila early yesterday.
They were identified as Ramzan Mollah, a resident of Gharchhala village in Satkhira Sadar Upazila, and Mafizul Islam of Madra village in Kalaroa upazila.
Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station, said being tipped off that a group of smugglers were trading arms illegally on the premises of Ekra Govt Primary School, a team of police led by Sub-inspector Pintulal Das launched a drive there around 1:30am.
Sensing presence of police, the smugglers hurled bombs towards them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate which left Ramzan and Mafizul bullet-injured.
