The government has decided to purchase a modern ‘pager system’ for the Special Security Force (SSF) to ensure a foolproof security to the Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) like the president and the prime minister.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs, held at the secretariat with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair yesterday.
For purchasing highly sophisticated security devices named ‘3G Pager System’, the Prime Minister Office (PMO), placed a proposal, signed by the principal secretary, before the committee seeking its approval.
According to the proposal, “There is a ‘2G Pager System’ purchased in 2009 and that is almost unusable as the mobile operators introduced 3G network in the country. Currently, important massages during the VVIP movements are communicated through mobile short message service (SMS), which is a threat to the security of the VVIPs. For this, a 3G pager system must be purchased for the greater interest of the state.”
“The 3G pager system would be purchased under the direct purchase method and an approval is needed from the cabinet committee on economic affairs,” the proposal added.
“The security device would be purchased from a single buyer at a cost of Tk 3.97 crore,” the proposal stated.
