Outgoing Pakistan envoy calls on foreign minister
The outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shuja Alam yesterday paid a farewell call on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter’s office in the capital.
During the meeting, the Pakistan envoy deeply appreciated Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development and the warmth and hospitality of the people of Bangladesh. The Foreign Minister wished well-being of the High Commissioner, said a foreign ministry press release.
Sadar Upazila vice-chairman arrested in Sylhet
Police arrested Sadar upazila vice-chairman and Jamat leader from Tukerbazar area on Tuesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Joyen Ahmed, vice-chairman of sadar upazila and Jamat leader of city area.
Police said a team of police arrested him from a Tukerbazar area said, Akther Hussain, officer in charge of Jalalabad police station.
He was arrested for two cases in connection with subversive activist the OC added.
65 held with yaba, liquor in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a series of overnight drives arrested 65 people from different areas in the city during the last 24 hours on Tuesday, reports BSS.
CMP also recovered 2,806 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, one and a half kilogram (KG) of hemp and 36 litres of liquor during the drive. A press release from CMP press wing said, a total of 65 people were held during the overnight raid from 16 Thanas of the port city.
Thirteen cases were filed with respective police stations in this connection. Army launches tree plantation campaign in Rangpur area
Tree plantation programme launched in Rangpur
Bangladesh Army yesterday launched its tree plantation campaign- 2016 with the theme ‘Tree for Livelihoods- Tree for Life’ in the cantonments, garrisons and other establishments in Rangpur area.
Under the programme, 10,000 saplings, fruit bearing, wood yielding and medicinal trees, will be planted in Rangpur cantonment, Bir Uttam Shaheed Mahbub Senanibas (BUSMS), and Syedpur cantonment.
Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md Masud Razzaque, ndc, afwc, psc, formally inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings inside Rangpur cantonment.
Senior military officers, commanding officers, junior commissioned officers, members of different other ranks of Rangpur Station of Bangladesh Army and local journalists were present on the occasion.
Similarly, authorities of Bir Uttam Shaheed Mahbub Senanibas (BUSMS) and Syedpur cantonment under Rangpur Area launched the tree plantation campaign under their own managements in the respective areas this morning.
Three held with unrefined fuel in Barisal
Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested three alleged smugglers along with 2,000 liters of unrefined fuel from Natun Haat on the Barisal-Dhaka Highway in Babuganj upazila on Tuesday night.
Sub-inspector of APBn Asaduzzaman said three people were going to Barisal from Shariatpur with the consignment of the illegal fuel. When the truck reached Natun Haat, a search team of the armed police intercepted the vehicle around 11.00pm.
Later, the APBn members recovered 2,000 liters of unrefined fuel form the truck and arrested three men in connection with the incident.
A case was filed with Babuganj Police Station, said SI Asaduzzaman.
