RAJSHAHI: Both government and non-government organisations should come forward to set up modern slaughterhouse to protect the public health from becoming infected with various diseases including the zoonotic ones, reports BSS.
If modern slaughterhouses were set up in both urban and rural areas, many more biogas plants could be set up, thereby the wastages of slaughterhouses could be managed properly and hygienically.
Time has come to prevent the existing trend of slaughtering animals here and there.
Local and international development organisations should come forward and work together to prevent the trend.
Prof Dr Jalal Uddin Sarder from Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of Rajshahi University revealed this while presenting his keynote paper in a workshop here on Monday.
Prof Jalal Sarder says collective effort of all government and non-government organisations concerned has become a crucial issue to control the community level zoonotic disease particularly anthrax as its risks are increasing in the country.
"Compared to other countries in the region, the prevalence of zoonatic diseases is not very high, but definitely we (Bangladesh) are exposed to growing risks of such diseases," he added.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and German Development Cooperation (giz) jointly organised the workshop titled "Slaughterhouse Cum Biogas Plant" at RCC conference hall in association with Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority ((SREDA).
