Chittagong Central Jail Authorities on early Wednesday executed the death penalty of two persons who are convicts in a murder case lodged in 2004 for killing a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Mirsarai area of Chittagong.
Saiful Islam, son of Kamal Uddin, resident of Uttar Hazi Sarai village and Mohammad Shahidullah, son of Tajul Islam, a resident of Sonapara of Mirsarai Upazila in Chittagong were executed at 12:01 am on Wednesday inside the jail, said Mahabubul Alam, jailer Chittagong Central Jail.
The jail authorities handed over their bodies to their family members and the bodies were buried in their respective family graveyards, said sources.
Senior jail superintendent Iqbal Kabir Chowdhury said the executions of the convicts were done following all legal procedures.
At Chittagong jail a man who was hanged in 2007 for killing his wife, after the execution in 2007, no man was hanged in Chittagong jail before the two executions yesterday (Wednesday) from 2007, said Jail authorities.
The jail sources said Saiful, Shahidullah and Mir Hossain rented a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on May 19, 2004 for going Fatikchhari upazila from Mirsarai upazila headquarters. They killed the auto-rickshaw driver Aziz and snatched his vehicle. Later police recovered the victim’s body. A case was lodged with Mirsarai Police in this connection.
The court of Chittagong district session judge Abdur Rahman Patowary gave death sentence of all the three accused in 2005.
The High Court upheld the death penalty for Saiful and Shahidulla while other accused Mir Hossain awarded life term, after appeal. The two death convicts also sought presidential clemency but rejected.

A murder case convict was executed in Sylhet jail at 12.1 am on Tuesday night. The executed was identified as Maku Robi Dass, 45, son of Robi Das , a resident of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district.
 During the execution security was beefed up surrounding the jail area said, Sagir Miah , a senior jail super of Sylhet jail.   
According to the case, In 31 October 2011 Maku hacked to killed Niyenka Robi Das, a  neighbour for the reason of two thousand taka. Later a case was filed accusing the Maku. After two years of case proceeding Habiganj district session judge court awarded the death penalty of Maku on September 9 in 2003.
Later, Maku appealed against the death penalty, where high court refused the appeal. Finally he appealed for the death clemency to the president, it was a refused.
Earlier on last 2011 Robi Mundda was executed on Sylhet central jail.
