Most startups start their journey with a small working space- small, shared or home office. For limited resources startups offices usually never have infrastructure like an established company. While space might be small, it necessarily doesn’t mean poorly designed. Rather designers are expected to show more creativity while planning these spaces.
Numbers of startups are rising. Small or shared offices places have a clear demand now. For obvious reasons, office space needs to be such so that it motivates and inspire the employees. There are a number of factors that come into play while designing a working space. Here are some factors that should never be ignored.
Culture and nature of work
An office is just not a place to work, rather an extension of one’s business and values. A workspace that doesn’t go along with the working culture will definitely lower the employee morale and productivity. The interior of the office space should reflect the energy of the organisation. It should be young and allow flexibility and collaboration. The workspace should encourage the employees and the organizations positivity needs to be reflected through its design. Besides, it is important to plan an office that can manage the increasing number of the employee or the company’s expansion with ease.
Layout
While coming up with the layout, the designer needs to consider the shape and size of the office. Flexibility needs to be there. Nowadays open offices are more preferred as the hierarchy is gradually being outdated. Common spaces are now the core of any startup office. Another rising practice among startups is choosing co-working space which helps employees to get acquainted with an environment and encourage collaboration. Though most startups do not focus on having private spaces, but adding a separate meeting or conference room would enhance their level of professionalism.
Furniture
Startups should invest wisely in getting furniture for the workplace. Heavy, expensive furniture aren’t helping them in any way. It is rather advisable to go for the concept of flexi-seating to get rid unwanted space killing. Usually, office spaces are an issue for startups so they should use versatile and multipurpose furniture.
Colour
The right shade of color can be a powerful element to reflect the energy of the workforce. To make the place more vibrant and lively, they should use the primary colors, graphics and also art murals. The colors on the walls should express the positivity of the place and enhance the brand image of the organization.
Light, ventilation and sustainable elements
Quite often light and ventilations are ignored while designing a space. It is very important to have proper air circulation and maximum use of natural lights in the office. Not only will these make the workplace look brighter but also will boost employee productivity.
Another thing to consider for the startup is using furniture from sustainable resources and making sure other elements help reducing carbon footprints. Going green is something all startups should consider.
