Jamalpur: The stationmaster of Jamalpur Railway Station has been withdrawn following the death of a freedom fighter after allegedly being beaten and hit by railway police, reports UNB. Shafiqur Rahman, a divisional railway commercial officer, said the authorities concerned have withdrawn Jamalpur stationmaster Mohammad Tarek following the incident. Meanwhile, a case was filed against the officer-in-charge of the local railway police station and three other policemen over the incident. Earlier, eight members of the Railway Police here, including its OC, were withdrawn following the incident.
Besides, the railway authorities formed a four-member probe committee, led by Shafiqur Rahman, a divisional railway commercial officer, over the incident.
Additional Director General (operation) of Bangladesh Railway Mohammad Habibur Rahman visited the railway station yesterday morning. Superintendent of police of the district Nizam Uddin, Divisional railway commercial officer Shafiqur Rahman, assistant commercial officer Pronobesh Sarkar were present.
The ADG also visited the residence of the deceased and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, freedom fighter Abdul Bari was laid to rest at Hatchandra village on Tuesday in state honour.
Earlier on Monday, Abdul Bari, 65, a retired army man and a resident of Hatchandra village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, was killed as he was beaten and hit by railway police at the railway station.
Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad in a statement yesterday have strongly condemned the killing. Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad expressed their strong resentment and condemnation over the killing of the freedom fighter Abdul Bari who was a parade commander.
