Tom Saintfeit, the Belgian football coach, leaving behind all the confusion arrived Dhaka early morning yesterday and also had a first training session with the Bangladesh national team at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Tom Saintfeit, who had a short trip here in early part of last month and also watched some matches of the Federation Cup Football (recently concluded) tournament and left Dhaka after having a  meeting with BFF president Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin to discuss about the requirements of both the parties to work as the Bangladesh national team’s head coach.
The BFF had changed a number of foreign coaches for the national team in the recent past and it was widely criticised by the football experts of the country as well as in the media.
But last few days there was a report that Saintfeit was short listed by the Nigerian Football Federation and it looked very much uncertain whether he will come back here to be the national coach of the country.
However, the coach arrived yesterday as he had words with the BFF and also had a meeting with the BFF president Kazi Salahuddin and the chairman of the national team committee.
After the meeting with the BFF bosses, Saintfiet also talked to the reporters and answered to different queries.
About his contract with the BFF Saintfiet said, “I have received the contract yesterday when I was in plane, I arrived this morning at 4:45am in Dhaka, so I didn’t sleep really, I checked it very short and sent it to my lawyer. In the coming days I expected it will be finalised everything.”
About his connection with the Nigerian Federation, “I want to tell you the exact picture since I have no job for last two months and I tried to find a job in any part of the world and therefore I have dropped my CV in several clubs and federations all over the world and Nigeria was one of them. I saw the message on Friday that I am in short listed but I have no further information from that side and I have no information or invitation to go there.”
“I am short listed, I saw it in media, I did not get any offer from any other federation, so I can’t talk about that and it is not topic for now.”
About the period of the contract UEFA license holder said, “First of all I like to focus on two matches against Bhutan in September and October when these matches finished and hopefully with qualification then we will work for longer time together, we must be qualify for Asian Cup, but first focus is three months and try to get good results, after then we will see for longer time contract.”
“Now I am here to coach Bangladesh, If I had no interest, then why should I travel here today. Yes I have to go now to the training ground and will conduct a light training session for the first time and have the opportunity to know the players and from tomorrow and coming days we will observe more and analyse the quality of the players,” said Saintfiet.
About the selection players or the camp, “You have to understand I saw only four teams playing, so I could not select all the best of the country, I saw 12 players were playing good and these 12 players I selected, rest of the players were selected by Titu. In the coming days I will observe the league matches and based on that some new players can be added,” said Saintfiet.
Chairman of the national team committee Kazi Nabil Ahmed informed that they will complete the contract by next three or four days - “Actually we sent him the contract two day before when he was on the way and he told us that he sent it to his lawyer hopefully we will complete it within three or four days.”
“We have also heard it that he is in a short list of the Nigerian Football Federation, Nigeria is a big football nation, it is great honour for him, he has quality to be in the consideration of them  but now he is here and also agree to work with us. But what will happen we don’t know, if he would be selected then when, nobody knows,” said Nabil.
“Right now we giving him the duty for the two matches against Bhutan then the contract will be reviewed but depend on the results and with discussion of both the sides,” Nabil told about the salient feature of the agreement with the coach.
