A tribunal in the capital yesterday issued warrants for the arrest of the victim and the plaintiff of the case filed against national cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife over torturing their housemaid, reports UNB.
Tanzina Islam, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5, issued the warrants for the arrest of plaintiff Khandaker Mozammel Haque and victim Mahfuza Akter Happy.
The tribunal issued the warrants as Mozammel and Happy did not appear before it for 4 to 5 times to give testimony, said public prosecutor of the tribunal Ali Asgar Shwapan. Shahadat and his wife Nitya were present at the tribunal.
On September 6, 2014, Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, was found lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area at Pallabi in Dhaka. Happy claimed that Shahdat and his wife tortured her. And the couple had gone into hiding following this.
The following day, a journalist, Khandakar Mozammel Haque, filed the case against Shahadat and her wife Nitya with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000.
On December 29, inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station M Shafiqur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court against Shahadat and Nitya.
On January 12, 2016, the case was transferred to Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 from the CMM court.
Later, the tribunal framed charges against Shahadat and his wife on February 22.
