Following is the full text of the speech delivered at her Ganobhaban official residence during an Eid day reception:
Eid Mubarak to you all. I am conveying my Eid greetings to the journalists present. I am conveying Eid greetings also to the people of the whole country.
Eid comes with the message of merriment. The Muslims go on fasting in the holy month of Ramzan and after the month-long fasting, all celebrate Eid with happiness. Everyone, rich and poor join the celebration irrespective of their social background. On this auspicious day, I am conveying Eid Mubarak and greetings to all the Muslim brothers and sisters in the globe alongside all our citizens at home and abroad.
You know that today we have reached a level of economic self-reliance. In the month of Ramzan, we have distributed 20 kilogrammes of rice through VGF among poor people for their Eid celebration. We have made arrangements so that our ultra poor people are exposed to pain of hunger and perform the ritual of fasting and celebrate the Eid properly. We have increased the salaries of public sector employees by nearly 123 percent. So I think, everybody could celebrate the Eid properly.
People keep fasting in the holy month of Ramzan. What Roja (fasting) tells us? What our religion Islam says? It's a month of restraint. And restraint is the main message of the holy month of Ramzan. And Islam is a religion of peace, a religion of fraternity. The religion of Islam has brought the message of peace. But, it's a matter of great regret that when some people stage something in the name of Islam, which, in reality, blackens our sacred religion Islam, earns a bad name for Islam. People will keep Roja in the holy month of Ramzan, none will kill animals.
On the contrary, people are killed here in the name of Islam. What could be the more hated or heinous crime than this? What worse could a crime be?
The incident that took place few days back on July 1 in Dhaka -- the call (ajan) for Esha prayers was given and people were offering their Easha and Tarabi prayers. And what sort of protection to Islam was this by moving towards somewhere to kill people instead of offering tarabi Namaj? Or launch of sudden attack on our law enforcement agencies somewhere adjacent to the venue of an Eid congregation, and even the suicide attack on the Misjid-e-Nabibi. They (these assaulters) actually do not believe in Islam.
I think they are the enemies of Islam. By now, you know that we have got some statements of them. They would establish the rule of Sharia, the laws framed by human-being would not be accepted to them. My question to them is that they are using internet or Face Book or U-tube or mobile phones, who have manufactured these? Men made. They have been using manmade things. It means they will not abide by the laws enacted but will use manmade things. They clothes and attires they have been wearing are also manmade. Who produces the instrument they use for taking photographs, or the weapons, be it machetes or automatic arms, which they use to kill people? Men produce these. Who produces the grenades and the bombs they have been blasting? Men produce these. Then what a sort of statement is this that they won't accept the laws framed by men when they have been killing people wearing clothes manufactured by men, using of weapons manufactured by men and vehicles manufactured by men? Who will accept their statement?
The most painstaking matter is what surprised me most, that they received modern education - how those who received modern education, highly educated could step into the trap of such deadly confusion? It's not thinkable to me in any way.
I can say this much that our religion Islam says innocent people can't be murdered. The religion of Islam hasn't given right to anybody to kill even if someone is non-religious or follower of other religious faiths or any other person. The Prophet (S) have never ever uttered such words that to kill innocent people. Rather, he has forbidden killing of any innocent person whatever might be his/her religious belief. That was his dictate. What is mentioned in the holy Quran---Allah Rabbul Alamin will deliver the last judgment. On the contrary, they have taken this responsibility of judgment without giving any scope for last judgment. What's the meaning of this---they don't accept Allah and Rasul. They don't abide by the dictates of Allah. They don't believe in the religion of Allah because they think that they are stronger than Khoda. Where it is mentioned in Islam? They will kill people? And it's a mistake of those who think that they will go to heaven by killing people and innocent people. They will never go to heaven, rather they will go to Dojokh (hell).
They have uttered a few words about our government. I offer Namaj (prayer) and start my days work by reciting the verses from the holy Quran regularly. But, they went to the spot to kill people leaving Namaj when Ajan of Easha was sounded and without offering Tarabi prayers on the day of Roja (fasting). Which sort of Islam they believe? They have no right to say anything about our government. They have no right to hurt our religious sentiment. The Prophet (S) said, don't do excesses with religion. They are doing excesses with the religion, doing enmity with Islam and giving a bad name to Islam to the world. They are blackening the religion of Islam indulging in terrorist activities.
So, I will request them to refrain from such activities. They should get real education after proper study and getting educated in higher education. Such a type of fanaticism would never be acceptable. I would like to ask their parents that we came to know by this time that a few university and college students across the country went missing. I don't know that different organizations starting from Human Rights to International Human Rights bodies have been producing reports from time to time on forced disappearances and while writing such reports they have been blaming the government or the law enforcing agencies. But, what we have now witnessed? Those students or a ward of a family who had faced forced disappearance and they could not be traced for days together but it has been experienced that they reappeared as militants or terrorists. Then how or on what basis, the reports were produced by these organizations?
Why they could not produce reports stating that the wards of the families or university students were subjected to forcible disappearance? I want to pose a question to these organizations as to why they have failed to report that the missing boys or students had joined such a type of terrorist and militant activities and they should have to be remained accountable for this. They reports in this regard they produced were not right. Had they been given the right information, we could have taken action. Many parents of the wards of those remained under forced disappearance and those remained missing for long had filed GD only. Don't remain idle filing GD only. Release information relating to how long your wards remained missing by themselves giving their photographs. We will arrange the scope for using of all the technologies including mobile phones or television channels. You appeal - you the children of ours, return to your own homes by deserting the path of militancy. If you don't want to disclose your names and addresses then it will remain as secret."
"Militancy is not a path of Islam. This is terrorism, a hateful crime against humanity. Let them return home as by shunning the path of militancy. We could make all arrangements (for their rehabilitation) including medical treatment. Whatever assistance is required will provide. The educational institutions will have to give us the names and photographs of their students who remained absent for a long time. They will have to provide the information to our law enforcement agencies so that we could find the out. This is my call to all educational institutions. Simultaneously we will have to take actions against the teachers of those educational institutions that provide bad education to the tender-aged students, pushing them towards the path of death and hell. Who are misguiding these tender-aged students? We need information about them as well.
I want to categorically say it again that it is Bangladesh and there will be no room for terrorists on this soil. Bangladesh is a country of the peace-loving people. We would do whatever is needed for ensuring peace and security for the people. The incident that happened in Gulshan -- an attack was made on a restaurant there. Bangladesh is the only country, where the assaulting militants could be neutralized very quickly and within a very short time. Twenty people were killed there. But we could rescue 13 people alive. So our target would be to always take actions where such militant attack takes place.
Simultaneously, we would like to call upon the people to constitute committees in very ward, union, upazila and district -- every neighbourhod. Find out the boys who went to wrong path and provide information about those involved in militancy. Simultaneously, take steps so that your respective areas remain free from terrorism and militants. On behalf of the government, law enforcement agencies and administration, we would extend all sorts of cooperation.
We think, if we could do it properly, we would be able to root out militancy. And there is another matter, today the international community stood by us and all of them took a stand against militancy and terrorism. So I think international community will also have to take responsibility how the militants could be resisted.
We are saying again that Bangladesh is a peaceful country. I gets hurt when we are taking the country forward economically and the entire world is looking at Bangladesh, everybody is praising us, we are making socioeconomic development of Bangladesh and alleviating poverty, we are making arrangements for education and healthcare, and ensuring better life for all at that time maligning Bangladesh by perpetrating such incidents and pushing Islam towards undermining situation would never be acceptable to us.
I would like to call upon the countrymen again you all remain aware. Keep trust and confidence in us. We must be victorious in anti-terrorism and militancy drive. The peace and security of the people of Bangladesh would be ensured.
Today is a joyful day of Eid. Those who launched attacks on policemen and killed people skipping Eid prayers they could never believe in Islam.
So those who are terrorists and militants have no religion. They have no country and have nothing. They are the most hatred thing before the people, nation and international level. Hell would be there place and they would never see heaven. It's a provision of Quran. Islam doesn't say killing of the unarmed people and innocent people.
So I want to assure the countrymen that we stay beside you. I have lost everything. I have nothing to loose. I have come to work for the welfare of the people of this country. I would continue work. I would present a better life to the people, a peaceful Bangladesh would be established. So let everybody celebrate Eid joyously. I extend my sincere greetings to all and everybody live beautifully, stay beautifully and lead a beautiful life -- it's my wish. My heartiest Eid greetings to all, thanks to all.
Khoda Hafez
Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu.
Long live Bangladesh.
