The Asia-Pacific Group on money laundering has shifted its annual conference from Dhaka to the United States after Bangladesh saw two back-to-back terrorist attacks in Dhaka and Kishoreganj, reports UNB.
The APG on Monday officially said its 2016 annual meeting and technical assistance and training forum, scheduled for July 24-28, have been postponed for Dhaka.
“It’ll now be held in the United States in September,” said the autonomous and collaborative international organisation founded in 1997 in Bangkok, Thailand with 41 members and a number of international and regional observers.
Details of the venue and time, it said, will be shared as soon as final arrangements are made.
Though the APG did not cite the reason for shifting the venue, an official here preferring anonymity said the July-1 attack on a Dhaka café and attack on police in Sholakia of Kishoreganj district might be the reason behind it.
Meanwhile, the South Korean Embassy in Dhaka said the “Charm of Korea VIII 2016: Classical Music Concert” will be delayed for several months due to “heightened security concerns and public safety.” It was scheduled to take place in the city on July 29-30.
