One killed in clash over land
Shariatpur: A man was reportedly gunned down by rivals over a land dispute at Balia Kandi village in Jajira upazila on Sunday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Harun Madbar, 32, a resident of the village.
Local sources said there had been a long standing dispute between Matiar Matbar and Hamid Matbar of the village over a piece of land.
Over the issue, supporters of the two groups locked into a clash around 3.45pm on Sunday.
At one stage, Mannan Matbar, son of Matiar Matbar, opened fire at the men of Hamid Matbar, which left Harun with bullet injuries.
Harun was admitted at Jajira Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead.
Police arrested two men - Sobhan, 30, and Ziaur
Rahman, 32 - from the village in this connection, said Mohammad Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jajira Police Station.
16 shops gutted in Noakhali
NOAKHALI: Sixteen shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Sonapur Municipality market under Noakhali district early morning yesterday, reports BSS.
Md. Liton Mia, general secretary of Sonapur Municipality Market Society said that the fire originated from a
short circuit of one Dhaka Store and soon engulfed other shops.
Md. Nurnabi, team-leader of Maijdee Fire Service Station, said that on information a unit of Maijdee Fire Service rushed to the spot and doused fire after 2 hours of hectic efforts. The fire originated from the short circuit, he added.
2 teenage girls drown in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ: Two teenage cousins drowned in the Dhaleswari River at Mollahkandi village point under Sirajdikhan upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon, reports BSS.
The victims were identified as Bithi, 16, daughter of Abu Baker and Ayesha, 13, daughter of Mohammad Alam of Narayanganj district.
Both the cousins drowned in the Dhaleswari river
while they were taking bath in the river on Sunday
afternoon.
Relatives and locals retrieved the bodies from the river after several hours of their missing.
They were rushed to Sirajdikhan Upazila Health Complex where attending doctors declared them dead.
Dr Dulal Ahmed, official of upazila health complex, confirmed the incident.
Shibir cadre arrested in Jhenidha
JHENIDHA: Police arrested an alleged Shibir cadre Akram Hossain , 25, from Dayarampur Kamil Madrasha under Court Chandpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Police allegedly recovered arms and ammunitions and some books from his possession.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Court Chandpur Thana Ahmed Kabir Hossain Chowdhury said police raided the madrasha at about 5am while he was holding meeting with other cadres.
Hunching the arrival of police all other cadres fled away from the scene, but police was able to detain Akram Hossain. Akram Hossain, son Alam Biswas, hails from Arenda village. Police produced him before the court and the court has sent him to jail custody.
