Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has assured the owners of the country’s RMG factories of providing necessary security to the buyers so that this biggest revenue earning sector does not face any trouble in the aftermath of the recent killing incidents, said BGMEA Vice President Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury yesterday. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Vice President told The Independent that they held a meeting with the prime minister at her official residence Ganabhaban yesterday night where Sheikh Hasina gave them the instruction. Nasiruddin said the PM has also asked them to set up a security personnel unit in
each garment factory to fend off any possible subversive activity in any industry. He further said that the government is very keen to ensure security for all so that the production is not hampered.
The BGMEA vice president said they would take all necessary measures as per the instructions of the prime minister to ensure security in the garment sectors.
There are around five thousand garment factories across the country at present, which is contributing to around $28 billion to the national economy and earning 82 per cent of the country’s total export earnings.
