The ECNEC is likely to approve the “Coast Guard’s Capacity Building Project” today. The project is a part of the government initiatives to boost the country’s maritime security, said an official of the Planning ministry to BSS yesterday.
Under the project, the Coast Guard will procure its necessary equipment including two inshore patrol vessels, two tugs and 10 high speed vessels
to check all sorts of smuggling including narcotics, arms and human trafficking, he said.
The project is estimated to cost Tk 445.42 crore and will be implemented from government fund by June 2019, the official added.
The official said the project has been taken as part of the mission and vision of the 7th Five-Year Plan and it will play a vital role in reducing the poverty line.
