Spurious drugs seized in Jhenidah

A large quantity of spurious drugs was seized in separate raids in two medicine shops in Jhenidah yesterday.
A mobile court, led by executive magistrate Bashir Ahamed, seized one lakh pieces of contraband tablets and various substandard and fake medicines from ‘Mum Pharma Limited’ at BSCIC area of the district town yesterday afternoon. Later, the law enforcers sealed-off the factory and arrested owner of the medicine factory Samsuzzaman, 42, of Kabirpur village in Shailkupa upazila.
Executive Magistrate Bashir Ahammed said the court fined the owner Tk 60,000.
In another drive, a mobile court led by UNO of Kaliganj and executive magistrate Monwar Hossain Molla seized huge quantity of contraband medicines and other date-expired medicines from ‘Hasan Pharmacy’ in Kaliganj upazila yesterday morning. The detained Hasan Ali, 43, owner of the pharmacy.
Monwar Hossain said the court sentenced the owner to six month imprisonment and sealed-off the medicine shop.
