Indictment hearing deferred again

A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing on charge framing in Niko graft case against 12 persons including BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, till August 10, reports BSS.
Judge Aminul Islam of Dhaka Special Judges Court-9 reset the date accepting a time petition submitted by the counsel of the BNP leader.
The court adjourned the hearing accepting our time plea, said advocate Sanaullah Miah, counsel for Khaleda Zia.
It is the fifth time that the court has deferred the hearing as Khaleda Zia refrained from appearing before the court today citing health and security grounds. The BNP chief is now on bail in the case.
The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon police station on December 9, 2007. The ACC on May 5, 2008, submitted charge-sheet against 11 persons including Khaleda Zia. Accepting a petition filed by Khaleda, the High Court on July 9, 2008, stayed the case proceedings and issued a rule asking for explanation as to why the case proceedings against her shall not be declared illegal.
The High Court on June 18, 2015, passed an order paving way for continuation of the graft case against the BNP leader before the trial court. The HC division bench comprising Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order while disposing of a rule issued earlier in this regard.
Khaleda later filed a leave to appeal plea against that High Court order.
