Former president and Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) HM Ershad said it was a big achievement in the history to free the dwellers of enclaves from 68 years of captivity.
“For this all the credit goes to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said while speaking at a public rally at Dashiarchhara enclave in Kurigram, reports BSS.
The Jatiya Party chief also exchanged views with enclave people on existing problems they have been facing.
Speaking at another rally at Kalirhaat Bazar inside Dashiarchhara enclave in Phulbari upazila, Ershad said, “As the adviser of enclave movement I always stood beside the enclave-dwellers and would remain with them. My ancestral home lies along this enclave in India. So, I treat you as my dear ones.”
The JP Chairman demanded construction of roads, educational institutions and a union parishad building with power connection to the dwellers of this enclave at the earliest.
A bridge over the Nilkumar River will be constructed within six month, he said.Hundreds of enclave people joined the rally braving heavy rains.
Bangladesh Unit President of Bangladesh-India Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee Maynul Haque presided over the rally at 1pm, also addressed, among others, by leaders of the Enclave Movement Committee Golam Mostafa and Altaf Hossain.
Ershad said, “No bill was passed with so many votes in the history of the Indian Parliament. The present government should be appreciated as it could solve the 68-year-old problem which none including that of the governments led by Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia could solve in the past. The enclave-dwellers lived a sub-human life, they got a new life now.”
Earlier, the Jatiya Party Chief inaugurated Nageshwari upazila office of his party and addressed a way-side rally there.
Speaking at the rally, Ershad said, “The people of the country will choose Jatiya Party in the next national polls. The former BNP government gave me much pain. They are not well now. Its leaders are now facing trials.”
District JP convener AKM Mostafizur Rahman, MP, member-secretary Rezaul Karim Reza, Nageshwari upazila JP convener and Poura-mayor Abdur Rahman Miah, member-secretary Anisur Rahman and Phulbari UNO Nasir Uddin Mahmud accompanied the Jatiya Party chief during his visit to the enclaves.
