Twaki�s father jailed over cheque fraud

A Narayanganj court yesterday sentenced Nagarik Andalan leader Rafiur Rabbi to one year in prison and fined him Tk 2.10 crore in a cheque fraud case.
Rabbi was present at the courtroom when Additional District and Session Judge Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order.
The cheque fraud case was filed by one Jalaluddin in July 2010 accusing Rabbi of embezzling Tk 75,000. Jalal is a relative of Shamim Osman while cultural activist Rabbi is the father of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki, who was murdered after being kidnapped in March 2013.
After the murder, Rabbi accused Shamim Osman of killing his son. Rabbi had said that Shamim Osman had Twaki killed to settle score over his (Rabbi’s) involvement in the movement for a cut in bus fares and in the protest against raising market on the railway land.
