Comilla: Locals on Friday caught three young men for their suspected link with militancy and handed them over to police at Kamalla Uttarpara in Muradnagar upazila, reports UNB.
They are Abdul Kahhar, 23, son of late Saidul Islam of Algi village, Abdul Mamin, 23, son of Hasan Mollah of the same village, and Omar Faruk, 22, son of Harun-or-Rashid, a resident of Kolakandi village in Banchharampur upazila.
Faruk is a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) while Abdul Mamin and Abdul Kahhar are both madrasah students.
OC of Muradnagar Police Station M Mizanur Rahman said a group of people had set up a religion-based organisation named ‘Hiljul Fuzul’ at Kamalla village in 2005. On Friday evening, members of the organisation were holding a meeting at its office. At one stage, local people surrounded the meeting venue suspecting that there was a plan underway there to carry out militant activities and caught Kahhar, Mamin and Faruk while other members of the outfit managed to flee scene.
