World leaders including United States President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping have expressed their willingness to stand with Bangladesh in fighting terrorism. “I join you in condemning, in the strongest possible terms, this horrific attack that claimed so many innocent lives, including a US citizen, Bangladeshi civilians and police, and citizens of Italy and India,” US President Obama told Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in a letter, offering condolences to the families and friends of the seven Japanese citizens killed, posted on the website of the Foreign Minister of Japan. “The United States continues to stand with Japan, Bangladesh, and the rest of the international community in our steadfast resolve to fight terrorism,” he said mentioning the incident of terrorist attack at a Gulshan restaurant on July 1. “This attack is an outrage, all the more so because your citizens were in Dhaka building a better future for Bangladesh,” Obama added in the letter received by the Japanese Prime Minister on Friday. Offering deepest condolences for the bereaved of the Gulshan attack, Chinese President Xi Jinping condemned the attack, saying, “China opposes terrorism of any form and condemns terrorist acts in the strongest terms.” “The Chinese side firmly supports Bangladesh in fighting against terrorists, maintaining national stability and safeguarding its people’s safety,” he said in a message sent to President Abdul Hamid dated July 4.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, in a message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dated July 4, voiced his country’s opposition to any form of terrorism and said, “China will, as always, firmly support the unremitting efforts by the Bangladeshi government and people to maintain national security and stability and stability and combat terrorism.” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, meanwhile, condemned the terrorist attack in Gulshan in the strongest terms.
In a message dated July 4 to his Bangladeshi counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, “The Chinese side is willing to enhance cooperation with the Bangladeshi side to combat terrorism and maintain our common security.” All the three messages of the Chinese President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were forwarded by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. Indian President Pranab Mukherjee strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Sholakia in Kishoreganj on Eid day (Thursday) and assured of providing Bangladesh every support to fight terrorism.  “I am shocked and distressed to hear about the terrorist attack in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh today on the day of Eid. I condemn the perpetrators of this attack in the strongest of terms,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
“This is the second terrorist attack in a week occurring in Bangladesh. The people and Government are engaged in a brave struggle against the evil forces of extremism and violence,” he mentioned. “The government of India will strongly stand by our brothers and sisters of Bangladesh in this fight. We will extend every support possible to enable the Bangladesh Government defeat these forces whose goal is to spread hatred, chaos and instability,” he said. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj also condemned the Gulshan attack and expressed her confidence that the government of Bangladesh would do its utmost to bring the perpetrators to justice to avert any future attack. “It is especially unfortunate that such mindless violence should be perpetrated during the holy Ramadan when the minds of true believers would be turned to spiritual pursuits. This has shown us that terrorism has no religion and no faith,” she said in a message to Foreign Minister Ali dated Friday. “India stands firmly with Bangladesh in this hour of grief and will work shoulder to shoulder with the government of Bangladesh against terrorism and to protect our societies from the threat of ideologies of hate, violence and terror,” said Swaraj. “We need to adopt zero tolerance policy and a comprehensive approach in fighting terrorism at all levels,” she added.
