Jamaica Tallawahs tasted first defeat after two successive victories when they were beaten by Guyana Amazon Warriors by seven wickets in the low-scoring affair of the Caribbean Premier League at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Friday.
Despite being lost the third match, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was sparkling with his bat and ball for Jamaica Tallawahs as he struck 25 off 23 with a walloping six and picked up one wicket for 21 in four overs.
Shakib earlier took one wicket for 25 in their CPL opener against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Basseterre on July 2 but he was wicketless in their second match against Trinbago Knight Riders at Port of Spain on July 4.
Warriors captain Martin Guptill decided to use his bowling battery after winning the toss on a typically slow surface and proved his decision right as his bowlers skittled out Tallawashs in 18 overs for a paltry 100, which they gunned down with two overs and seven wickets in hands.
Pacer Sohail Tanvir and spinner Veerasammy Permaul shared fives wickets between them. Of them, Permaul conceded 20 runs to grab three wickets in four overs spell. And Tanvir snapped up a brace, giving away 11 runs in three overs.
Pakistan-born left-arm medium fast bowler gave the first breakthrough for Warriors when he removed dangerman Chris Gayle trapping leg before wicket in the very second delivery of the proceedings. He then extended his wicket tally to two snaring another wicket when he bowled Imad Wasim cheaply.
In the wake of the combined attack of pace and spin, only three batsmen including Chadwick Walton (12), Rovman Powell (38) and Shakib Al Hasan (25) slammed double figure marks. Of them, Rovman Powell topscored with 38 off 42, clobbering with one six as many as four.
Needing 101 runs, Guyana Amazon Warriors fumbled in the fourth over when Imad Wasim got rid of Dawyne Smith and Martin Guptill for single digit while they were at 11for 2.
Together with wicketkeeper-batsman Anthony Bramble, Chris Lynn slotted home the victory though they lost Jason Mohammed by Shakib Al Hasan while he was on 22.
En route to top-score of 39 not out, Australia-born Lynn stitched together a couple of partnership including 42-run third wicket with Mohammad and 48-run with Bramble for the unbeaten fourth wicket stand.
For Warriors Lynn hammered three sixes as well as one four in his unbeaten 35-ball 39. Man of the match Bramble clubbed 27 off 18, hitting two towering sixes and one four to be remained indefatigable.
