Another Uttara elevator crash victim dies
Another victim of Uttara elevator crash died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday after a long fight against burn injuries.
Partha Shangkor Pal, a physician of Dhaka Medical College, told BSS that ten-year-old Maisha, who was undergoing treatment since June 25, breathed her last at 8am on Friday.
With her demise the death toll rose to seven in the elevator crash at Uttara Tropical Alauddin Tower Shopping Complex on 25 June, according to medical sources.
Smuggled goods worth Tk 123.59cr seized in June
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives at different frontiers seized smuggled goods and contraband items worth over Taka 123.59 crore in the last month.
A press release of the BGB said on Tuesday afternoon that the BGB also recovered one gun, two pistols, two air-guns, four magazines, 11 bullets and 5.5 kgs of gunpowder in the month of June.
“During the period, the paramilitary force also arrested 108 people for their direct involvement in drug trafficking and 104 Bangladeshi citizens on charges of illegal trespassing and prevented 142 intruders of Myanmar citizens to enter Bangladesh territory,” the release added.
The seized smuggled goods include: 9, 34,038 pieces of yaba tablets, 15,855 bottles of phensidyl, 1,818 kgs of cannabis, 16,589 bottles of foreign wine, 3.21 kgs heroin, 41,072 pieces of sex-stimulating pills, 4,588 intoxicated injections, , 44,62797 pieces of ulleagl tablets, 23,252 pieces of shares, 8,238 three-pieces and 2.61 kgs gold.
Illegal goods worth TK 3cr seized at Dhaka airport
Members of Customs Intelligence and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in an overnight separate drives seized huge illegally imported goods worth about Taka three crore at Hazrat Shahjalal ® International Airport (HSIA) in capital on Tuesday.
Dr Mainul Khan, the director general of the directorate of customs intelligence and investigation, told BSS that the goods were seized from the main air house of the airfreight which were imported from Hong Kong without legal documents. The seized goods were: 269 mobile sets, 38,720 pieces of memory cards, 16 pieces of apple smart wristwatches and 67 notepads.
