A minor girl drowned and her bother went missing as they fell into the River Buriganga as a launch hit a overcrowded pontoon at Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the old city on Tuesday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya, 3, daughter of Suman, of Kodalpur Village under Goshairhat Police Station in Shariatpur district while search for Sumaiya’s brother Sakib, 5, whose chances of remaining alive is very slim, is going on in full swing.
More than 20 persons including the two children fell into the river Buriganga as the launch hit hard the pontoon at No. 1 VIP Gate around 6am and the body of Sumaiya was later recovered from the river, Sub Inspector (SI) Krishna of Kotwali Police Station told BSS.
Divers are frantically searching for Sakib, he said adding that the body of Sumaiya was handed over to her family. A case was lodged to this end.
