Fitra has been fixed at minimum Tk 60 per head this year, reports UNB. Islamic Foundation has fixed the amount at a meeting at about 10:30am yesterday. Member Secretary of National Fitra Fixation Committee Maulana AMM Sirajul Islam presided over the meeting.
A press release of Islamic Foundation issued after the meeting said per person Fitra has been fixed at minimum Tk 60 and maximum Tk 1650 this year taking into account the market prices of wheat, ata, dates and other items.
Fitra can be given in cash or kind. Fitra is 'wajib' for all members of a family and should be paid to the poor people before the Eid Jamaat.
Prof Siraj Uddin Ahmad, principal of Government Madrasa-e-Alia, Dhaka, Dr. Saiyed Abdullah Al Maruf, assistant professor of Arabic Department of Dhaka University, among others, attended the meeting.
