Mustafiz touches another landmark

Sports Reporter

New pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman touched yet another landmark by becoming the highest wicket-taker in the three-match bi-lateral series. He claimed two for 57 in the third and last ODI against India to take his wicket tally to 13, highest for any bowler, eclipsing the record of West Indies fast bowler Vasbert Drakes and compatriot Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

Drakes hauled 12 wickets in a three-match bi-lateral series against Bangladesh in 2002 while Mashrafe’s 12 wickets came against Kenya in 2006. Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris also snapped up 13 wickets in three matches against Pakistan in 2010 but that was a five-match series. Harris missed the first two matches of that series. In that sense, Mustafizur’s 13 wickets is a new record in a three-match bi-lateral series.
Mustafizur Rahman is the first bowler in the world who grabbed record 13 wickets in his first three matches. Earlier, Zimbabwe’s Brian Vittori, South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir and his compatriot Rasti Theron took 11 wickets in their first three matches.
Mustafizur surpassed all of them when he dismissed Rohit Sharma for the third consecutive time in the series. Sharma yet again was baffled by his off-cutter, a delivery which humiliated Indian batsmen in the last two matches to give Mustafiz a record haul of five for 50 and six for 43.
A five-wicket haul however eluded him in the third ODI to join legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis.

Unlike the first two matches, India batsmen showed more technical aptitude and composure in dealing with Mustafizur Rahman’s off-cutter in the third match and reaped the rewards with scoring 317 for six. But by the time they decoded his off-cutter, they had already lost the series.
