Larry Ellison, founder and executive chairman of Oracle Corp, said his database company is expanding its cloud-computing offerings, bringing Oracle into more direct competition with Amazon.com Inc, says a press release.
“We’re prepared to compete with Amazon.com on price,” said Ellison in a webcast presentation recently, after announcing that Oracle would offer online storage and capability for customers to run their applications entirely in Oracle’s cloud.
Oracle Cloud Platform is experiencing exponential growth and is already powering some of the world’s most recognisable brands and organisations.
With 1,419 added in the last quarter, Oracle Cloud Platform has more than 1,800 customers.
“Oracle is growing really fast. We sold $426 million worth of business in SaaS and PaaS last quarter, a 200 per cent increase over the same quarter last year. That’s an industry record, no company has ever sold that much in just one quarter,” said Ellison.
