Cox’s Bazar: Two local Awami League (AL) leaders were killed by criminals in Taknaf and Maheshkhali upazilas of the district yesterday, reports UNB. In Taknaf, Sirajul Islam, 62, president of Teknaf Sadar union unit AL, was shot dead by criminals at Pallanpara early yesterday. Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Abdul Majid said a group of miscreants fired gunshots at Sirajul when he was sleeping at his house at about 1:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
Meanwhile, another local AL leader, who received bullet injuries in an attack by assailants at Sonadia Island in Maheshkhali upazila on Sunday night, succumbed to his injuries early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim alias Nagu Member, 55, a member of Kutubjum union parishad (UP) and also president of the union unit Awami League.
Officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station Babu Chandra Banik said a group of miscreants fired gunshots at Nagu member and stabbed him indiscriminately on his way to home from Tarabi prayers around 10pm on Sunday, leaving him critically injured.
He was first rushed to Moheshkhali Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
He succumbed to his injures at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital around 12:30am yesterday. A case was filed in this connection.
