Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said there is no traffic jam on the country’s highways ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“People are going to their villages for celebrating Eid with their near and dear ones comfortably, and there is no complaint of public sufferings,” said the minister while talking to reporters after visiting Mohakhali Bus Terminal in the capital.
Besides, several special vigilance teams under the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority have been set up in every bus terminal of the city to prevent charging of excessive fair from passengers, he said. He also urged people to inform the vigilance teams if any bus owners realise extra fair from passengers. About 1,000 volunteers were deployed in 16 points of the highways across the country for ensuring peaceful journeys of the homebound passengers, he said.
Besides, a mobile repairing unit will repair roads if holes are created on the highways due to rain, the minister added.
