4-lane highways make Eid journey hassle-free

BSS

The newly built two four-lane highways have brought a big relief to thousands of homebound people, especially during the Eid rush, as vehicles were plying the highways without facing heavy traffic congestions like before.
"Now, it takes five and a half hours to six hours in place of earlier eight to nine hours to go to Chittagong from Dhaka," M Osman, member secretary of Dhaka-Chittagong Special Coach Malik Samity, told BSS.
He was very happy at the improvement in vehicular traffic between Dhaka and Chittagong, particularly ahead of Eid, as this would bring the transport operators more business and make trips safe on this very busy route. Similarly, the transport operators, travelers and traffic police were also highly satisfied at the smooth traffic movements on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the two major expanded Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways at a function at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital city. In her inaugural speech, the prime minister said that the inauguration of the two major road networks ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is an Eid gift of her government to the country.
Immediately after the inauguration, people have found the highways a major breakthrough to the country's road communication, connecting the two important cities of Chittagong and Mymensingh with capital Dhaka and providing quick, uninterrupted and safe journey to the homebound people marking the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. "The traffic movements on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway have been smooth since its opening. We cannot see any traffic jam on the highway," a constable of Comilla traffic control room told BSS.
BSS Comilla correspondent said the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway is offering easy and congestion-free Eid journey to the homebound passengers. "We cannot see any traffic jam in the highway. The home goers are reaching their destinations much earlier than before," he said, adding that it takes around two hours now from Dhaka to Comilla in place of earlier three to four hours.
Gazipur traffic control room operator Shah Alam told BSS that this year there was no traffic jam on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and the vehicle were moving smoothly.
