Muggers shoot man, snatch car in capital

Armed muggers shot a man and snatched his car from Bijoy Sarani area of the capital early yesterday.
The injured was identified as Asif Abdullah Khan, 25, a resident of Uttara area in the capital. During the incident, the muggers also severely beat up his friend Sabbir Ahmed Bappi while he was trying to resist them.
Talking to The Independent, Inspector Mozammel Haque, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said Asif sustained bullet injuries to abdomen. Asif left the hospital after receiving treatment around 4am, he added.
According to Bappi, they were returning to their Uttara home from Old Dhaka after taking sehri at a hotel around 3am.
Some five to six muggers intercepted them with a truck near Bijoy Sarani flyover. They got down from the truck and beat up Asif and Bappi.
At one stage, they shot Asif and took away the car, he added.
