Incessant rain for the past two days submerged low lying areas of the port city of Chittagong while it initially appeared as a welcome shower to relieve residents of sufferings from scorching heat. The Chittagong Patenga Met Office recorded 147.1 mm rainfall in the last 24-hour till 3 pm yesterday (Wednesday), said Tariful Newaz Kabir, met official.
The met official also said that the downpour that due to a monsoon wind in the Bay might continue for next few days.
The civic life almost came to a standstill as office-goers and school going children faced untold sufferings. Mechanised vehicles stopped moving in areas under water while many of those were seen stuck in waters with their engines downed in knee deep waters.
