Speakers at a view-exchange meeting yesterday said the Dalits are living below the poverty line and are losing their professions, reports BSS.
There is no scope to deny that the Dalits, socially untouchable and discrimination victimized population, are a part of country’s manpower who contributes in GDP (Gross Domestic Product) by producing leather and leather-oriented materials and materials made from bamboo and cane, they said.
They said at the view-exchange on ‘position of destitute dalit people and our responsibility’ at National Press Club conference lounge yesterday.
Non-government organisation SHAREE (Self -Help Association for Rural people through Education and Entrepreneurship) and Minority Human Rights Defender Forum organised the view-exchange with SHAREE Executive Committee member agriculturalist Dr Gul Hossain in the chair. Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Affairs Ministry Israfil Alam addressed the view-exchange as the chief guest while Professor of Dhaka University History Department Mesbah Kamal, former Bangladeshi press minister to US Swapan Saha, advocacy officer of Oxfam and Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad Secretary General Nirmal Chandra Das and Bangladesh Dalit Panchayet Forum convener Rajkumar Das spoke it as the guests of honour.
