Three housewives were hacked to death allegedly by their husbands and in-laws in Monirampur and Chowgachha upazilas of Jessore district and Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district on Thursday night.
In Monirampur, Sathi Begum, wife of Alamgir Sheikh, was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and his family members at Lauri village.
Victim’s father Kamal Mollah alleged that family members of Alamgir used to torture Sathi since after her marriage.
They had been demanding Tk 50,000 as dowry, but the demand got stronger with the Eid approaching. Over the issue, Sathi had an altercation with her husband at night.
At one stage, Alamgir, aided by his family members, tortured her, leaving her dead. Later they hung body with a beam of the house to make it appear as a suicide.
On information, police recovered the body. Alamgir went into hiding after the incident. A case was filed with Monirampur Police Station in this connection.
In Chowgachha, Ruma Rani, 20, wife of Subash, was tortured to death allegedly by her husband and his family members at Patibila village in the upazila at night.
Nahiyan, sub-inspector of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, said Ruma was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital with critical injuries.
Later, her husband and in-laws went into hiding after Ruma died at the hospital.
Ahsan, sub-inspector of Chowgacha Police Station, said Subash hit Ruma with a spade over a family feud at his house at night, which left her critically injured.
Later, she was admitted to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. A case was filed with Chowgachha Police Station in this connection.
In Chuadanga, a woman was killed allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Sutia village in Jibannagar upazila on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Police said Rama Rani, 27, wife of Subhash Chandra, went to her grandfather’s house along with her husband on Tuesday.
On Thursday morning, Rama had an altercation with Shubhash over a trifling matter and at one stage, Shubash hit Rama with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
Later, she was rushed to Jessore 250-bed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 8pm.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Jibannagar Police Station, said police conducted a drive to arrest Shubash.
