Most of the public servants and students, who want to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones at home, left the capital as the nine-day vacation marking the largest religious festival of the Muslims began yesterday, reports BSS.
The city’s Kamalapur Rail Station, Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali Bus Stations and Sadarghat Launch Terminal were seen crowded with home-bound people today as they left for home with their family members to celebrate the Eid.
July 4 was the only workday between the Eid holidays and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared July 4 as holiday by an executive order. The declaration of the day as a public holiday paved the way for a nine-day vacation starting from yesterday.
The first two days of July are weekend and July 3 will be another holiday for Shab-e-Qadr. The next three days will be the official holiday for Eid-ul- Firt followed by another weekend on July 8 and 9. As a result, the public servants will enjoy vacation from July 1 to July 9. The Bangladesh Railway, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) have taken different initiatives including introduction of special launches, trains and buses to make hassle-free Eid journey of homebound people.
Bangladesh Railway (BR) will run seven pairs of special from July 3 to 5 and July 8 to 14 on different routes trains to carry homebound passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the BR sources said.
The law enforces have taken special security measures to ensure a hassle-free journey for the home-bound people. The government has set up a control room at the BRTA headquarters in Tejgaon which will remain open from July 3 to 9. A total of 1,000 scout members will perform as volunteers along with law enforcers from tomorrow morning to the day of Eid-ul-Fitr in the city’s 16 important points to make hassle-free journey of the home-goers.
