Preliminary squad for England series

BCB selectors overlook Jubair, Shamsur

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 30-member preliminary Bangladesh squad for the conditioning camp ahead of the upcoming home series against England yesterday.
The most important thing of the provisionary squad is the comeback of experienced campaigners Rakibul Hasan and Suhrawardi Shuvo, who staged a stunning comeback after a five-year long hiatus. Both Rakibul and Shuvo last played (in Test) for Bangladesh against West Indies at home yard in November 2011.
Rakibul, who showcased his batting prowess in DPL, garnering the highest score of 719 with one hundred and five fifties from 16-match road string, hogged the attention of the selectors to stage the return.
Shuvo on the other hand demonstrated his magic spell with spin, scalping 17 wickets from 14 encounters. All-rounder Shuvo didn’t score too much but he clattered an unbeaten century (105) against Prime Bank Cricket Club, which gave Victoria Sporting Club a 9-run victory.
Shahriar Nafees’s selection made all surprised as some players didn’t draw the attention of the selection panel in this squad despite being well done in DPL than him. He scored 350 runs with one hundred and one fifty from 10 matches in the Dhaka Premier League. The left-handed opener played last for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in 2013.
The exclusion of Jubair Hossain Likhon and Shamsur Rahman Shuvo were criticised by all the quarters. Shuvo mustered 558 from 11 matches with one hundred and four fifties in DPL. However, the selectors did not call any new face in the preliminary camp
Expressing their satisfaction, BCB chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu said that they have given the 30-member preliminary squad keeping the long term planning in mind.
“We’ve selected some players beside the regular players and formed the 30-man provisionary squad after discussing with all the stake-holders. We have taken some experienced players keeping Test matches in mind,” said Minhazul Abedin.
“We have chosen Shahriar Nafees only for the longer version. If you see his batting average in BCL and NCL you will see a good average in batting,” Nannu told about Shahriar Nafees.
The selected players were asked to report to the national team’s strength & conditioning coach Mario Villavarayen on July 20 at 8:15am at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.
The first three-day of the camp will be held on fitness led by Mario Villavarayen, who is now in Sri Lanka will come few days before the camp. Thereafter, the main camp with bat and ball will be taken place under the guideline of the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who is also in aboard will also come prior to the onset of the training camp.
England is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on September 30, just six days ahead of the main campaign, which will be started from Dhaka with one day international.
During the tour, the visiting side will play a one day warm-up match before the three-match ODI series, of which the first two matches will be held in Dhaka on October 7 and 9 respectively.
The third and last one day will be played on October 12at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, where they will also play the first Test of the two-match Test series on October 20-24 following two 2-dayer warm-up matches at MA Aziz Stadium from 14-17.
The second and last Test match will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka in between October 28 to November 1 before departing for London.
