Mayor detained over VGF rice misappropriation

RAJSHAHI: Police yesterday detained Tanore municipality Mayor Mijanur Rahman on charge of misappropriating Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice, reports BSS. To mark the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitre celebration, the municipality mayor was given responsibility of distributing VGF rice among 1,565 distressed people living in the municipality area. As part of executing the official order, the mayor in association with his ward councilors was distributing rice in the municipality office premises since yesterday morning. Upazila Social Service Officer Shamima Sultana was supervising the rice distribution activities and found each of the card holders was being given 17 kilograms of rice instead of allocated 20 kilograms. She informed the mater to Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and lodged a case with Tanore Police Station in this connection.
